  • Earth
    - An electrical connection to earth by means of rods or plates.
  • Efflorescence
    - Powdery white marks on the surface of brickwork, caused by salts left after moisture dries out.
  • Eggshell paint
    A type of oil-based paint with a mid-sheen finish - halfway between matt and gloss (seml-gloss).
  • Emery paper (cloth)
    - Abrasive material used to smooth metal.
  • Emulsion paint
    - Water-based paint used principally to cover walls and ceilings.
  • Enamel paint
    - Very dense oil-based paint used for small areas of woodwork and metal; only a single coat is required.
  • End grain
    - The wood grain exposed by cutting across the grain. It is prone to splitting and is very absorbent.
  • Epoxy grout
    - A two-part, epoxide-resin-based, ceramic-tile grout, with a tough, hygienic waterproof finish, which has to be mixed on site.
  • Epoxy resins
    - Synthetic resins used in high-strength adhesives.
  • Escutcheon
    - A protective plate in which a keyhole is cut.
